What are the differences between U.S. hispanos and latinoamericanos?

I think that the Hispanic from the US is the source of information for the Latin-American. And the Latin-American is the source of information for the US Hispanic. In Latin America is where my most important live shows have taken place, 89,000 people in Costa Rica and 60,000 people in Colombia. In the US there are an important number of people as well. I think that, the Latin-American that lives in the US takes very good care of his family in his home country. The information for both is very reciprocal.

Is 2007 the year we get a new beat in reggaeton?

Yes, 2007 has to be year that will give us a new rhythm, a new form. The genre, music and artists now demand it. Of course, 2007 will give us new music.

Does the commercial success of reggaeton mean it will evolve even more slowly?

No, on the contrary. I think that reggaeton’s commercialism is what will allow the genre to keep opening doors around the world.

Is your beef with Daddy Yankee for real or are you two just playing to sell more records?

I think that I have always sold my records without the help of Daddy Yankee. My career has nothing to do with Daddy Yankee. The music that I do has nothing to do with Daddy Yankee. I don’t work with him. I don’t want to work with him or with anyone that has worked with him. It's very real for me, at least for me.

You're having tremendous success – what's coming up?

I’m going to California to a school of acting and cinematography in Hollywood. I want to be able to join the cast of "The Fast and The Furious Part IV." I have the opportunity of joining Vin Diesel’s acting school; he went to one of my concerts in L.A. This year is going to be a very busy year, I’m going to Europe, Australia, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Tokyo and I am playing in South Korea again. I have a lot of work this year.

So you are bringing reggaeton to the west coast.

Of course, the west coast is a very strong market for me. It has given me a lot of unforgettable concert nights. It was the west coast that gave m e the opportunity of doing a different type of show with a live band. The Gibson Amphitheatre... was sold out two consecutive nights during the King of Kings tour at the Gibson The west coast is very important for me.

Do you watch music videos? How does the quality of reggaeton videos compare to hip hop or pop rock videos?

Of course, I can tell you that yes. I admire 50 Cent’s video for Candy Shop, one of the most impressive works from him, done by Jessy Terrero who also worked on my "Conteo" video, for the "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." Pablo Coroche also works with me, Mr. Carlos Perez also … The fact that we can use the same producers gives us the same benefit as them.

What's your favorite food in Puerto Rico that you can't find in the
U.S.?

What's my favorite food I like to eat from Puerto Rico...I love this candy that they make from coconuts on the beach. It is delicious.

What's your favorite food outside Puerto Rico?

I like Colombian food. I also like a Salvadorian drink called "Pupusa," made from fruits, it’s delicious.

What's your favorite word in English?

Loyalty.

Is Puerto Rico a dangerous place to live? What made you decide to carry a gun?

Puerto Rico is an island that has seen me grow up since I was a little kid, very ignorant as well, from the projects. From being this problematic teen and turning into the person that I am today, a self made 28-year-old honest gentleman. Puerto Rico is not a violent city; it is an island that has given me a lot of love and the opportunity of getting known from there. Regrettably, we have a lot of bad intentioned persons. And until today only a rule in my favor against the charges brought against me. I was able to get out of the bad life, I was able to overcome it. But Puerto Rico is still a great place to live in.

Are Nuyoricans the lost tribe of Puerto Rico?

Laughs. Never, never. Nuyoricans are part of the essence of New York, for being urban, from the ghetto. The Boricuas, the Dominicans and all the Latinos there are what give flavor to New York. Thanks to them I have the opportunity of living in New York. I know that it is the Latinos that give the flavor there.

Puerto Rico: state or independent nation?

Let them enable us to continue being Puerto Rico. We want to keep on being the same island with humble people, with hard working people that receive a lot of jobs from the U.S., but that in their hearts are independent. Regrettably the economic situation in the island is not good, maybe in due to past decisions that were not thought of impacting the future this way. I don’t know. If I told you that I wanted Puerto Rico to be helped by the U.S., in truth I would want for people to fight with a ferocious and independent heart. That is what I would like.
