Quetzal

Founded by Quetzal Flores in the early 1990s, Quetzal is a contemporary Chicano rock band with four albums and plenty of hardcore fans. The East L.A. band combines rock, Afro-Cuban, country blues, and jazz elements to support the wide-ranging, bilingual and always earnest vocals of Martha González.

The retro-futuristic mix has garnered praise from critics – the LA Times calls them a "world-class act" – and support from such luminaries as Los Lobos. True to their roots, members of Quetzal also play in Fandango Sin Fronteras, alongside musicians from Veracruz, Mexico and Zack De La Rocha as well as members of Ozomatli.

Quetzal's latest album, Die Cowboy Die, was released by their own independent label Quetzal Music.
