"You never see my mug mean" raps Houston's self-described drug dealer-turned-rapper Rob G. While some MCs boast about the joys of hustling, the Chicago-born twentysomething refuses to glamorize his troubled past: "I couldn’t look no kid in the face and tell them, if you sell drugs, you’ll be okay. I would be lying to them."

Rob G, the son of Uruguayan immigrants, built his rep the old-fashioned way: mix tapes. His most recent collection, State of the Streets, turns on the stand-out track Texas Boyz, a collaboration with fellow H-Town rapper Chamillionaire built on a slippery rhythm track and Rob G's clean but winning lines. On the video for the screwed remix of his "Reppin' My Block" Rob G invites Lil Keke and Slim Thug to celebrate a Texas few would associate with its former governor, President George W. Bush.

Ambitious and clear-headed, Rob G has already guested on tracks by pop singer Frankie J. and Universal Republic label mate Natalie. His major label debut, Inauguration, is scheduled for release later this year.
