Trunk Boiz

In late 2006, the teenage Bay Area quartet The Pack gained national attention with their hit song "Vans," an ode to the iconic skate footwear. Following in their footsteps are Oakland's Trunk Boiz, a 10-member hip hop outfit that rivals the size of the Wu-Tang Clan or Oaktown's Hieroglyphics, hope to spread the gospel of hyphy and sell hella records in the process.

The Trunk Boiz' take on hyphy – a movement popularized by E-40 and Keak Da Sneak – is an endearing homage to their stunning rides: Scraper Bikes.

While other MCs brag about Lamborghinis and Bentleys, the Boiz – comprised of Alexander tha Grate, Artis, B Janky, Baby Champ, DOC, Fithy Fam, N Between, Reece da Beast, 2Deep, and Young Juice – extol the virtues of their personally customized bicycles. The fresh-faced crew has released one album on ATM records, featuring Cupcake No Fillin, a bouncy track that alternates a high-pitched vocal sample with sexually explicit lyrics. The Trunk Boiz, formed at Oakland's Fremont High, plan to release their second album soon but they aren't shooting for local respect or even country-wide recognition. According to 2Deep: "We're trying to go worldwide with it."
