- In the last two months, over 400 penguins, most of them babies, have washed up dead along the beaches of Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. Environmental experts suggest overfishing and pollution are to blame for the unusually high number of deaths. (via FP Passport)

- In an effort to reduce smog in Beijing during this summer's Olympics, China is only allowing half of 3.3 million cars to be driven each day. For a two-month period, cars with license plates that end in even numbers with alternate daily with cars that have odd-numbered plates.
- Mexican immigration officials are reporting that an increasing number of Cubans are heading to U.S. through México. Over one thousand Cubans have been detained in México this year, compared to 1,359 in all of 2007. (via FP Passport)
