- Over 2.5 billion people in the world have no access to toilets, according to the United Nations. An estimated 700,000 children die worldwide every year from unsanitary conditions.
- Four soldiers were killed by a bomb blast in Baghdad, bringing the death toll in Iraq past the 4000 mark. White House officials called the milestone a "sobering moment."
- Several U.S. states, including Kentucky, South Carolina and Wisconsin, are considering lowering the legal drinking age from 21 to 18 for military personnel. Proponents argue: if they're old enough to fight in a war, they're old enough to drink at home. According to USA Today, over 80 percent of those killed in Iraq were 21 and over.
