- Bolivia president Evo Morales is leading a protest against a new FIFA ruling that restricts officially sanctioned international fútbol matches from being played 8,200ft above sea level. Matches in Bolivia's capital city, La Paz, are played at 11,811ft above sea level.
- Shakira denies rumors of a wedding with Antonio de la Rua.
- NY senator Hillary Clinton picked up an endorsement from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was appointed co-chair of Clinton's national campaign. Villaraigosa joins previously appointed co-chair, California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez.
- Babasónicos release their first DVD, Luces, featuring concert footage from Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The disc also contains two unreleased tracks: "Confundismo" and "Testigo de Nadie."
- Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida will open a Harry Potter theme park in 2009.
- Kanye West claims that he's "the Mel Gibson" of the music world.
- A "high-value" Saudi prisoner committed suicide while being held at the U.S. detention camp in Guantánamo Bay. Over 350 prisoners are being detained indefinitely without criminal charges. Camp commanders have called previous suicides "an act of asymmetric warfare waged against us."
- Michael Jackson has bought the publishing rights to a portion of Eminem's music catalog. He also currently owns the publishing rights to songs by The Beatles, Shakira, Beck and Björk.
