- Rodstarz and G1 of New York hip hop trio Rebel Diaz speak about their arrest by the NYPD last month. The rappers say they were attempting to translate on behalf of a street vendor who was being cited and were arrested when they asked for the officers' badge numbers.
- Thousands of people marched in Perú to protest the economic policies of President Alan Garcia. Mario Huaman, organizer of the marches and leader of the Confederación General de Trabajadores del Perú, says the country has failed to distribute its growing wealth to its poor population: "This is a government of the rich and the transnational companies."
- Former presidential aide Karl Rove has refused to testify in a House Judiciary Committee hearing investigating his involvement in what is believed to be the politically-motivated firings of several U.S. attorneys. Rove claims he is immune due to "executive privilege."
- A Wal-Mart in Texas has pulled comics featuring Memín Pinguín after customers complained it was insulting to blacks. Created in Mexico, Memín is supposed to be a dark-skinned Cuban-Mexican boy. His features – bug eyes, big lips – borrow heavily from 19th century stereotypes. (via FP Passport)
