After nearly 50 years in power, Cuba's Fidel Castro, 81, announces he will retire from power, ceding the reins to his 76 year-old brother, Raúl. Meanwhile, fellow dictator President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan has suffered an electoral defeat in that nation's first free elections since 1999. Pakistan,which borders Afghanistan, is believed by some to be at the heart of the War on Terror.
