Pedro Zapeta, a Guatemalan man who had $49,000 in cash confiscated by federal authorities, has won an appeal to have some of his money returned. In 2005, Zapeta was detained by Florida airport officials for not declaring $59,000 in cash – the legal limit is $10,000 – he planned to take to Guatemala. According to Zapeta's lawyer, the dishwasher should have been fined $5,000, not $49,000.
