In an effort to reduce smog in Beijing during this summer's Olympics, China is only allowing half of 3.3 million cars to be driven each day. For a two-month period, cars with license plates that end in even numbers with alternate daily with cars that have odd-numbered plates.

China surpassed the U.S. as the number one industrial source of carbon dioxide emissions, according to a study in the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. Man-made carbon dioxide worsens global warming by accumulating in the Earth's atmosphere and trapping in heat.
