Alexis Vélez Alberio, aka Alex Zurdo, has a mean reggaetón flow. But instead of firing off raps about cars, girls and bling, the 23-year-old puertoriqueño chooses to hold it down for Christ.
Though Zurdo – "lefty" – started composing raps as a teen, he drifted away from music after becoming an Evangelical Christian. It would be a short hiatus. According to his bio, Alex Zurdo's newfound God compelled him to return to the studio and spread his faith through reggaetón. Alex Zurdo has since recorded three albums. His latest, Se Trata De Tí, is a collaboration with fellow reggaetónero Jonny L and features the anti-drug anthem Lo Que Consumo. The track is so heavy it transcends faith and has received airplay on Puerto Rico's influential Reggaeton 94FM.
One of the Christian reggaetón's forerunners, Alex Zurdo is touring throughout Ecuador, Puerto Rico and the U.S.
