Teachers working in Texas' Harrold school district will be allowed to carry concealed guns once they take part in crisis management training. Superintendent David Thweatt: "When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started."

U.S. Attorney General Mukasey announced a crackdown on the flow of illegal firearms across the border to Mexico. Firearms are prohibited in Mexico but not in the U.S.. Mexican drug cartels and, probably, American guns, are blamed for the violent deaths of 115 people in Mexico in just the first two weeks of this year.

According to the Washington Post, there are nine guns in private ownership for every 10 people in the U.S., compared to less than one in 10 in Brazil. In Finland and Switzerland, it's about five out of 10 – more than in Iraq, where it's four out of 10.

Mexico City police are asking citizens to trade in their firearms for Xboxes and computers. Trading in a handgun will get you an Xbox; trading in a high-caliber weapon like a machine gun will get you a PC. (via Gizmodo)
