The minimum wage has been $5.15/hr for the last nine years . (The cost of one pound of bacon was $2.49 in 1997, today it’s $3.39.)
Last week, the U.S. Senate took a vote to increase it to $7.25 in 2009. But the Senate is controlled by the Republican party so when the minimum wage increase came up for a vote, they said to the Democrats, like, "you can only vote for this increase if you agree to let millionaires inherit mansions without being taxed on that income." The Democrats refused. The minimum wage is still stuck at $5.15, which is really about $4.15 if you're buying bacon.
