  • Cuban-American rapper Pitbull releases his fourth studio album, The Boatlift. Industry leader Billboard.com loves the “combination of clever, in-your-face Spanglish lyrics and frenetic dance beats," adding that the "talented Miami MC shows his range … transitioning from uptempo dance to R&B to everything in between.” Slant Magazine jumps on the boat: “In a move especially ambitious given today's fractured music market, Pitbull has put together an album that could be played in clubs everywhere from South Beach to South Central.”
  • Ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean celebrates ten years of going solo with his sixth studio album, The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant. The star-studded affair includes Paul Simon, Shakira, Akon, Serj Tankian from System Of A Down, will.i.am and Norah Jones. “It’s no surprise that he pulls off something pretty ambitious here,” acknowledges The BBC. Clef has packed the album with social commentary, but "his eye is too firmly set on a carnival atmosphere to ever sound preachy,” writes The Guardian.
  • Dancehall singer Shaggy is back with Intoxication, his eighth album. The Village Voice is pleased to report that the “slick Shaggy sex formula is intact,” featuring “catchy choruses with deep, fluid growls landing like smart bombs over irresistible beats.” Now Magazine thinks Shaggy's “intentions sound pure, but [his] musical moonshine will leave all but the biggest fans with a heavy hangover.”
  • Australian dance pop diva Kylie Minogue returns with X, “a savvy, shiny, slyly sophisticated set of thoroughly modern dance floor exercises,” according to Yahoo! Music. The hipsters at Pitchforkmedia.com say that even the weakest tracks “have a sparky enthusiasm that makes their magpie modernism sound less cynical.” Magpie modernism.
