Jennifer Lopez' first Spanish-language album, Como Ama Una Mujer, has a softer vibe that is “unabashedly romantic and completely different from the urban sound of her English albums,” according to Billboard.com. The bootylicious dance beats may be missing, but Lerenti.com praises the “sweeping, often gorgeous, stream of romantic consciousness” on the album.
Los Cuates de Sinaloa's latest release, Puro Sierreno Bravo, features two guitars, a bass and plenty of controversial tales about drug trafficking, which “produce a powerful mix that their followers will find hard to resist,” argues La Opinión Digital. Radio Al Aire admits that despite the album's lyrical content – at a time when banda artists are being gunned down for performing narcocorridos – the songs will make “everybody’s jaw drop."
The posthumous re-release of Ruff Draft, an EP from underground producer-rapper J Dilla, is a "curiosity,” complains Slant Magazine, “an offshoot rather than example of Dilla’s genius." Prefix Magazine believes that “the EP is more creative journal than polished masterpiece.”
Good Charlotte's de-punked album Good Morning Revival “won’t change anyone’s life, but they sound good enough to almost convince you they mean something,” observes Entertainment Weekly. The album is más o menos liked by Rolling Stone, who gives them two stars for their “dark and sour” songs and “tortured emo choruses."
Life In Cartoon Motion, the bright and spunky debut album by Beirut-born Londoner Mika, comes to the U.S. this week. Despite the Freddie Mercury and Scissor Sisters comparisons, “Mika is very much his own person,” concludes the BBC. Stylus Magazine hates the album and wants poor Mika to get “f***** in the eye with a knife."
