Babasónicos

They have been called Argentina’s answer to The Flaming Lips, but Babasónicos have a progressive edge sharper than most experimental psychedelic rock bands. This has been been a busy and successful year for los Babasónicos, touring their recent “Anoche” album throughout Latin America, Spain and the U.S. and a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Rock Album.

Thanks to Argentinean rock heads like Gustavo Cerati and Daniel Melero, who have championed the band since their early days, Babasónicos have always been on the radar screen of the Rock en Español crowd. Led by the charismatic and energetic Adrián "Dárgelos" Rodríguez, Babasónicos have been twisting the concept of Rock en Español for more than 15 years. Their nine albums to date reflect musical influences far and wide: country pop, electronica, hip hop, bossa nova, string laden ballads, metal and alternative. Never being weird for the sake of sounding weird, Babasónicos have always conveyed a natural eclecticism that has enabled them to become one of Argentina’s most respected bands and reach a wider audience with their last two albums.

Babasónicos are now previewing a new video for the song “Capricho” on their revamped website. Before the year ends, they'll go full-on with a bunch of releases: a soundtrack for the movie “Kept and Dreamless”, a DVD compilation of their music videos, and a new collection of B-sides entitled “Carolo”.
