Zoé

Zoé is probably one of the first Mexican rock and roll success stories. In a country where rock music has struggled for many years under a state-sponsored ban and the domestic music industry caters almost exclusively to pop and foreign artists, Zoé have persisted, if not thrived. The five-piece from Mexico City is not nearly as well known as a Maná or El Tri but they appeal to a new generation of teenage Mexican rockers that have embraced rock as a staple and not a novelty act. For the middle class chavitos y chavitas on mai espeis, Zoé is the right band right now.

Formed in 1994 by singer León Larregui, guitarist Sergio Acosta, bassist Ángel Mosqueda, keyboardist Jesús Baez and drummer Alberto Cabrera (recently replaced by Rodrigo Guardiola), the band was not able to release their debut album until the end of 2001 when the group was picked up by Sony after years of languishing on EMI. The rebound affair with Sony didn't last very long: the group was cut loose after their sophomore release Rocanlover in 2003. Just two years later, Zoé would take everyone but their fans by surprise when the independently released EP The Room went Gold – a spectacular achievement for an indie record in México.

Memo Rex Commander y el Corazón Atómico de la Vía Láctea, their latest, features Zoé at the top of their game with a polished Brit pop rock sound a la The Beatles, The Charlatans UK, Pink Floyd and Radiohead. It's an achievement that opens the band to the frequent criticism that they sound "too British" and not Mexican enough, whatever that means. Nonetheless, songs like “No me destruyas” and “Vía Láctea” will slide right in to just about any iPod, regardless of its country of purchase. Ironically, the four English-lyric songs on Memo Rex are not nearly as catchy or compelling.

Zoé, who have sold out concerts across la república mexicana and just completed a small promo tour in the U.S. are now officially buzzworthy. Whether they'll cross over as many international boundaries as the British acts they admire may hinge on how much longer they can continue to push against the grain.

im glad that Zoe sea reconocido mas frecuente1!!!!!

in my opinion Zoe does not sound "too British", their music has been influenced by many british bands, but they give their own taste to the songs, and thats what we the fans like this band so much!! they are different from other bands but they are unique...and Sony did a mistake by cutting Zoe's career so fast!!! y k importa k no sean tan famosos k Mana o El Tri, one day their name will be on the list of the greates bands.

Zoe rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps: pongan mas videos de Zoe more frequently please!!!!

In my point of view Zoe is one of the best rock groups from Mexico, if not the best.
Now I know it may sound crazy and overhyped, but why not compare Zoe's latest album Memo Rex Commander y el Corazón Atómico de la Vía Láctea to Mana's latest Amar es Combatir. Mana's is dull, average, and sounds like any other song on the radio that any other mediocre band could write. On the other hand, Zoe's lyrically creative with some songs being mellow and full of feeling, and others being really upbeat and full of energy.
So basically Mana has gone from good to bad to worse, while Zoe has been getting better and better from their debut cd to so far the great band that they are today. Zoe's evolution will surely be for the good of the band and for the good of their music and rock en espan~ol in general.
So today Zoe is one of the best bands from Mexico along others like Molotov, Panda, Cafe Tacvba, and Natalia y la Forquetina.

PS: Mun2 does need to put more rock en español videos if not we'll just have to watch Telehit or MTV Tres. Don't lose viewers; play better music. There's other genres besides that regueton crap.

its funny that a country like mexico doesn't promote their own artist ''zoe'' should had already blown up to other countries they remind me of jaguares they need a powerful record company to push them cause right now there ahead of their time ...there the best in latin america.f that.

I've followed Zoe since there Electricidad, i grew up with there music, and like my sister is with jaguares, i am with zoe, to my liking i admire there songs, there lyrics and them as a person. two bands i've met, zoe and kinky, and let me tell you zoe surprised me ALOT!! you would think with all the fame they got gradually act differently, but when i spoke to them as nervous as i was they were very cool with me, even asked me where a comp usa was lol.. but kinky BIG DISSAPOINTMENT. what a differnce. Zoe will surpass any challenge, they have proven that already! BEST OF LUCK ZOE!
MUCH LOVE FROM ORANGE COUNTY CALIFORNIA!!!
